LA Chamber Music Fixe

I've always loved chamber music. There's just something intimate about it, even in a fairly large concert hall - the small number of instruments making such a wonderful combination of sounds, perhaps. So it was no wonder that I had such a great time when I was able to attend Chamber Music with Janine Jansen, part of her weekend of concerts in her LA debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Lucky for me (and for you!), there's plenty of chamber music opportunities in the Los Angeles area to keep your calendar filled...

Here's a highlighted run-down just for the month of April:

• Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra - Baroque Conversations at Zipper Concert Hall (April 10th), Neighborhood Concert at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (April 12th), and even something for the kids with Baroquey-Pokey at the Alex Theatre (April 13th


• The Da Camera Society wants you to mix Chamber Music with Historic Sites such as Doheny Mansion with Triple Helix Piano Trio, Soovin Kim on Violin at Tod Ford House, and Ciaramella at St. Paul Catholic Church


• The Shumei Arts Council of America features some of the best student classical chamber music groups in their Clyde Montgomery Concert 2008


• Harmonia Baroque Players offers a number of performances of "Ancient Airs and Dances" featuring chamber music from the 16th-18th centuries


• Cal Phil Music allows you to have some food and drink with their Chamber Music in Hornstravaganza! (April 13th)


• Western Society of Chamber Music has offerings at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (April 20th) and the Hill Auditorium (April 26th)


• Need an update to your chamber music? Take this cutting edge approach with Robin Cox Ensemble with Amy X Neuburg at the Miles Memorial Playhouse (April 19th-20th)


• Can't go wrong with the offerings of Southwest Chamber Music. Check out their Season Finale events featuring the music of Ives, Mahler, and Schubert


• And going back to the beginning, the Los Angeles Philharmonic has a regular schedule of chamber music as part of its repetoire.
